LEATHER CRAFT

Morocco is probably the country most known in the field of leather. The words "maroquin" (morocco leather) or "maroquinerie" are proof.

Old North African tradition, this activity is to collect the skins, mainly those of the sheeps also goats and camels, softened with lime and pigeon droppings, washing them thoroughly and dyeing them, drying them on terraces and finally softening them. This is the work of the tanner, the ancestral knowledge of the craftsman will do the rest.

Jackets, bags, decorations for a piece of furniture, slippers (to make a good pair of slippers, one needs six working hours what allows to make only two pairs a day)... A meticulous work which Moroccan as tourists know how to appreciate.
